October 2026 · Houston, Texas

We have exciting news! Makor HaEmet School is now officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so gifts to our Messianic Jewish school in Houston are now tax-deductible. What started as a prayer shared by a handful of families has grown into a school where children thrive academically while building a strong foundation in Scripture and their faith in Messiah Yeshua.

A Growing Messianic Jewish School in Houston

Makor HaEmet offers an academically excellent education rooted in biblical truth. Through our University-Model schedule, students are on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays and learn at home the rest of the week with teacher-prepared assignments.

This year we added a grade level and welcomed new teachers along with a new Head of School. Our vision is to keep growing all the way through 12th grade.

How Your Tax-Deductible Gift Helps

Every donation goes straight into our classrooms:

  • TLV Bibles so every student has their own Tree of Life Version

  • Curriculum and supplies like phonics and math tools, leveled readers and library books

  • Classroom furniture, storage and outdoor space for lunch and fellowship

  • Room to grow as we welcome new students and add grade levels

A gift of $50 provides two TLV Bibles, and $100 buys needed academic materials. Gifts of $500 or more help equip a whole classroom. Monthly giving helps us plan with confidence.

TEFA: Up to $2,000 for Makor HaEmet Families

The TEFA team has confirmed that Makor HaEmet families may apply for the Texas Education Freedom Account under the Homeschool/Other category, which provides up to $2,000 per student each year for approved education expenses. Awards depend on each student's eligibility and available funding.

We're also working toward becoming an approved TEFA vendor so families can put their awards toward our classes.

New in 2027: The Education Freedom Tax Credit in Texas

Texas has opted into the new federal Education Freedom Tax Credit, which starts January 1, 2027. Donors who give to an approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) may receive a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit:

  • Up to $1,700 for individuals

  • Up to $3,400 for married couples filing jointly

Those SGOs then fund scholarships for eligible K-12 students. We're looking into whether these scholarships could help Makor HaEmet families, and we'll share updates as the program takes shape.

Please note that this credit applies only to gifts made to approved SGOs. Gifts made directly to Makor HaEmet are a separate opportunity and may qualify as a charitable deduction. Read the IRS overview.
